Jimmy Kimmel has revealed the heartwarming reason he had to skip a recent show.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host began his opening monologue on the May 20 (May 21 local time) episode by revealing he is now a grandfather!
“We were supposed to have a show last night, but we didn’t because my daughter had a baby last night,” Kimmel told the audience, who erupted in cheers at the news.

The show was supposed to be the night before on May 19.
Kimmel shared his daughter Katie and her husband Will welcomed their first child – a girl.
He said the bub came “right at the time we shoot our show last night.”
“So I decided to be there instead here.”

In true Kimmel fashion, he first joked his daughter had named her baby “Melania Thee Stallion” before revealing his granddaughter’s real name is Patti.
His granddaughter’s middle name is Joan, which is also Kimmel’s mother’s name.
“We had an army of family at the hospital. It was bigger than Coachella,” he said.

Kimmel then shared a video of him calling his Aunt Chippy to share the news and reveal the name was an ode to her sister Joan – but not without a joke first.
The host jokingly told her the baby’s name was “Joe Mama”, but wasn’t fooling his aunt.
Kimmel is a dad of four from his two marriages.

He shares two kids with his first wife Gina Maddy: daughter Katie, 33, and son Kevin, 31.
The talk show host was married to Maddy from 1988 to 2002.

He then married his second wife, Molly McNearney, in 2013. They also share two kids: daughter Jane, 10, and son Billy, eight.
His son Billy was born with a congenital heart condition in and has undergone three open heart surgeries.
Shortly after becoming a grandfather, Kimmel celebrated another accomplishment in the family – this time for his wife McNearney.
“Congratulations to my wife Molly McNearney on her well-deserved #Gracie award and shoving me hard before her hilarious acceptance speech. My lawyers will be in touch,” he wrote on Instagram with a photo of his wife on-stage at the 50th Gracie Awards.
Speaking to People at the event, McNearney said her husband was “great” after becoming a first-time grandad.
“I think he feels nervous. All of a sudden, he has this new responsibility he’s so excited about,” she said.
