When you’re as rich, as famous, and as successful as Amal and George Clooney, it might be expected to have a few strict house rules.
Maybe things like no shoes on the carpet or no pets on the couch – when you’ve presumably got furniture worth hundreds of thousands, those rules seem pretty fair.
But what if when you knocked at the door, your hosts took your phone away from you – is that a bit much?

In a recent chat with Glamour, Amal revealed that she and her husband have a “phone basket” where guests in their home have to leave their phones during their visit.
“Creating private moments and spaces is becoming increasingly difficult,” the human rights lawyer said.
“But that’s also why we entertain a lot at home. I now have a phone basket that I use to take everyone’s phones away.
“It’s important to get that balance where you have time alone with your family and with your friends where people feel like you can have a safe and frank exchange.”

She shared that becoming a parent has changed the way she views her family’s public persona, explaining that her new role has made her “more troubled by some of the intrusions”.
The couple share two children together, eight-year-old twins Alexander and Ella, whom they notoriously keep out of the public eye.
“We do the best we can to minimise any impact on our children,” she said in her recent interview.
“We don’t put our children out there, we’ve never put their photo out there or anything like that.”
George has also previously spoken about the couple’s affinity for privacy in an interview with GQ.

“I have a goal of trying to protect, I don’t want pictures of my kids,” he said.
“We deal in very serious subject matters, with very serious bad guys, and we don’t want to have photos of our kids out there.
“So we have to work hard at trying to stay private, and it’s tricky, as you can imagine.”
