Jason Derulo is giving fans an inside look into his creative process, revealing that his 3-year-old son, Jason King, plays a special role in shaping his music. According to the singer, before any of his tracks hit the airwaves, young Jason King is the first to hear them.

The 35-year-old opened up to Jennifer Hudson in a recent interview on her show about how his son is a budding A&R rep when it comes to his music.

“Yeah, he’s the new A&R,” Derulo joked with the talk show host.

The “Slow Low” singer added, “Sometimes you gotta let your kids do the work because they don’t know how to lie yet, so they going to keep it real.”

Derulo also revealed that Jason’s influence goes beyond music. The young boy doesn’t hesitate to offer his thoughts on his father’s fashion choices, giving him feedback on everything from outfits to accessories. According to Derulo, Jason has developed quite the eye for style. It seems the toddler’s opinions are shaping more than just his dad’s songs—they’re helping define his personal look too.

“If you like, ‘Bubba, what you think of about this outfit?’ he be like, ‘Nah, uh-uh,’ ” the “Glad U Came” singer told Hudson.

For Derulo, the beauty of asking his toddler’s opinion over everyone else’s is that he knows Jason will keep it real, and anyone else, might not.

“But if you ask a random person, they’re going [to] be like, ‘Oh yeah, it’s cool,’ ” Derulo joked.

Jason appears quite frequently on his father’s social media. And, most recently, Jason got to share the stage with his famous father who performed on Good Morning America. Dressed in his Buzz Lightyear Halloween costume, Jason played his role well as “de facto music advisor” as he held his father’s hand and danced to his latest hit, “Make Me Happy.”

Derulo shares his son with ex, Jena Frumes.
