Rachel Griffiths leans in and unzips her tiny black handbag as she reveals her “sneaky” Derby Day fashion hack to 9honey Celebrity.

“This is my best fashion secret,” she says, pulling a folded black bundle from within.

What looks at first like a sleep mask turns out to be a clever ballet flat made from black fabric.

Rachel Griffiths reveals 'sneaky' flats hidden in her bag on Derby Day.

“This is what I’ll be wearing to walk like a kilometre and a half to my car tonight,” she reveals with a cheeky wink.

The Anyone But You and Muriel’s Wedding actress looks chic in a white suit and black heels at the LANDMARK by Lexus marquee, but admits she can’t wait to kick her heels off at the end of the day.

Her outfit was inspired by all the women who wore suits to the Logies in August, plus it makes Griffiths feel like a “lady boss” while still being relaxed.

A suit is also much easier to manage on windy days like Saturday in Melbourne.

“I have had the most beautiful dress in spring racing on one of those days before,” Griffiths says, then mimes a skirt flipping up in the breeze.

At 55, she’s more confident than ever and doesn’t look back on wardrobe malfunctions with any shame.

In fact, the one piece of fashion advice she wants to impart on the next generation is to “give zero f–ks” about what anyone else thinks.

“What I love about young women today is they are just being who they are, if that means covering up their bodies with voluminous fabric, or not having to owe anyone pretty,” she explains.

“I think there’s more choice now that you don’t have to be on trend. You don’t have to dress for others, just yourself.”

Her other tip is to always dress for comfort because at the end of the day, the more comfortable you are, the more fun you’ll have.

And boy did Griffiths have a lot of fun on the set of her latest blockbuster Anyone But You with Sydney Sweeney and Glenn Powell.

The 55-year-old reveals that both of the US leads were very down to earth and the entire cast was like a real family during filming, something she suspects Will Gluck carefully orchestrated.

Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney

”There was never time to go back to your individual trailers, so we had a cast green room and Sydney was in there, Glenn was in there, we’re all in there, all the time,” she says.

“There was no like, ‘I’m Sydney Sweeney, take me to my trailer’. It was just actually really lovely. We definitely had laughs. We shared stories.

“I feel like we were able to become a family quite quickly because of it and I’m sure they designed it that way. [Gluck] is so smart like that.”

Griffiths also weighed in on the romance rumours that swirled around Sweeney and Powell during filming and the press tour, revealing they were unfazed by the speculation.

“We were just laughing about it, but they’re also both smart enough to go, ‘it doesn’t hurt the project’. They handled it really well.”
