In September 2023, the world was shocked to hear Joe Jonas had filed for divorce from his wife of four years, Sophie Turner.

The split got messy, with the A-list duo battling it out for custody of their two daughters Willa and Delphine, however at the time both Jonas and Turner refrained from speaking to the press about the situation.

Now, the Game of Thrones actress has opened up about the split for the first time, explaining the toll the relationship had taken on her.

“I’m going through a legal process right now where I can’t really say much, but it was incredibly sad. We had a beautiful relationship, and it was hard,” Turner told Harper’s Bazaar.

“I’m so happy to be back [in England]. It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England.”

She went on to explain that while living in America with Jonas, away from her family and friends back in London, she hadn’t really felt like herself.

”I was away for so long – six years – and it was when my friends were getting engaged, and when I got pregnant,” she said.

“I went for dinner with someone the other day, and she said, ‘I never got to touch your belly’. We didn’t have those key experiences with each other.”

Jonas and Turner now share custody of their two daughters, with Willa and Delphine in the US with their dad at the time of the interview.

“It’s absolute agony,” Turner said of being away from her kids, explaining she’s staying with a friend while they are away because she hates to be home alone without them.

“Before I had kids, I was very depressed and anxious, and I would isolate [myself] a lot,” she shared, explaining how motherhood has changed her.

“Now, I think I live my life for them. I want them to see me having a social life and enjoying work and thriving in my career and relationships.

“I want them to see a hard-working mum. I’ll come back and say, ‘This is why Mummy was away – it’s because she’s doing this for you, so Father Christmas can come with a big bundle of presents’.”
