Perrie Edwards has opened up about the breakdown of her friendship with fellow Little Mix star Jesy Nelson.
Edwards, 31, appeared on Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place Podcast for a candid and in-depth interview where she touched on her lost friendship with Jesy.
Edwards said she wrote a song about the loss of a friendship and said it was a “really sad” moment for her.

“When you’ve been in that person’s life for years, they’ve had your back, and you’ve been through highs, lows, everything… poof they’re gone. That is hard to deal with,” Edwards said.
“I struggled a lot with that. It’s really sad but at the same time, these things sometimes happen. It does make you think, ‘Do we try to rectify the situation?… Do I reach out? It doesn’t feel like I should. I feel like I should stay away.’ It’s a really horrible dynamic to be in.”
She added that it can feel like a “dagger to the heart” when you reach out and things don’t go well.

“I think when you try and it doesn’t get taken well. It’s like another [dagger to the heart],” she said, enacting a dagger to the heart during the interview.
“Well I tried, they don’t want it. That’s fine. You can’t force someone to be friends with you. If they don’t want to be friends with you, they’re not gonna be friends. It’s really hard.”

Little Mix formed on The X Factor UK and released hit songs including Shout Out to My Ex and Woman Like Me.
The group featured Edwards, Nelson, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.
But in December 2020, Nelson announced she was leaving the girl group to focus on her mental health.
“After an amazing 9 years together Jesy has made the decision to leave Little Mix. This is an incredibly sad time for all of us but we are fully supportive of Jesy,” a tweet shared on X read following the announcement.
In December 2021, Edwards, Thirlwall and Pinnock announced they were taking a break and going on a hiatus after more than 10 years together, “so we can recharge and work on some other projects”.
Edwards has just released her solo single, You Go Your Way.
