Shaquille O’Neal recently caught slack after suggesting that Angel Reese should wear shorter shorts while dunking, which sparked some controversy.

On the latest episode of the “Unapologetically Angel” podcast, hosted by the WNBA star, basketball legend O’Neal joined as a guest. Shaq and Reese share a bond that started with their common history as former LSU Tigers and has since evolved into a friendship and mentorship dynamic, both on and off the court.

One of the topics that Shaq has long advocated for is the idea of lowering WNBA rims to enable more dunking, which he believes could drive more excitement and attention to the women’s game. Despite some controversy surrounding his stance, Shaq once again shared his perspective on this episode of Reese’s podcast. However, his way of expressing it this time around sparked backlash among fans.

“Imagine you in the same lil’ shorts you had on at the ‘Wild ‘N Out’ show dunking,” Shaq said, suggesting that Reese could attract fans and sell merchandise with her athleticism. “You know how many t-shirts you gonna sell, you trippin.”

Taken aback, Reese responded with an “Oh my god” while visibly surprised by his suggestion. As Shaq doubled down, adding, “The same little shorts you had on at ‘Wild ‘N Out’… I’m just saying,” Reese tried to cut him off with “Okay, alright, alright, alright,” hoping to change the direction of the conversation.

Fans, however, were quick to express their disapproval of Shaq’s comments. Many argued that promoting women’s basketball should focus more on athletic ability and competitive spirit rather than relying on potentially objectifying marketing strategies.
