Co-stars to lovers is a very common trope in Hollywood, and it happened to comedians Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader. But why did two of the funniest people in showbusiness break up?

Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader reportedly started dating after they starred in the 2019 Disney+ film Noelle. “Anna and Bill have been dating for a while. They really like each other and share the same sense of humor,” a source told Entertainment Tonight. “They’re both very happy in the relationship and it shows. They have a natural connection.”

Another source said that the two were perfectly ok with taking things slow. “They’re in no rush to get engaged and are happy with how things are going,” the source added. A couple months after the reports emerged, a source confirmed to People that the two had split in June 2022.

Why did Anna Kendrick & Bill Hader break up?

A source told gossip account Deux Moi that Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader broke up because he wanted to “focus on his work & his kids.” Bill Hader had previously expressed his desire to keep his relationship private to protect his kids. “They just want me to be their dad,” he explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “They just want me to sit and watch Encanto over and over and over again. So that’s what I do.”

While Anna Kendrick is reportedly single, Bill Hader is currently dating fellow comedian Ali Wong. The Beef actress opened up about how the Barry creator courted her. In her special Single Lady, she recounted, “He was like, ‘Hey, Ali. I just happened to hear the news of your divorce today, and I gotta tell you, I’m excited. I am Ali because, look, I have had a crush on you forever, and I actually told my best friend years ago that you were my dream girl.  I know this sounds crazy, but, uh, I want you to be my girlfriend.” He later sent her a bouquet of flowers, which some of her friends found “sweet” while others found it to be the behavior of a “psychopath.”

Just like his relationship with Anna, the two choose to be “very selectively private” about their relationship. Ali shared to Access Hollywood that their relationship works because “It’s just also, like, we’re both, like, in our 40s and parents.”
