Teaching kids how to drive is a significant milestone that combines responsibility, freedom, and safety. As young people prepare to take the wheel, it’s essential to equip them with not only the technical skills required to navigate the roads but also the critical thinking and decision-making abilities. Well, Empire actor, Terrance Howard, recently revealed on an episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, that he had a very unique way to ensure that his son learned how to drive and much more.

The 55-year-old told Hudson on her show that his son, Hunter, with whom he shares with ex-wife Lori McCommas, not only learned to drive, but can handle himself behind the wheel doing stunts as well, all thanks to the stunt driver who taught Hunter how to drive.

Howard explained that Jay Lynch who’s “an incredible stunt driver. He drove me in Idlewild. He drove me in a couple films. He took my son out, and would spend two hours a week showing him how to do stunt driving, showing him how to do defensive driving, and that has made him a very safe driver.”

“Even if he wants to pull a stunt,” Howard added, “he knows how to do it. So I think it works.”

During his interview, the Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist actor took a moment to go down memory lane with Hudson, reminiscing about when he learned to drive at the age of 17.

“I remember being 17 driving at 120 miles an hour and trying to do turns and things of that nature, and I could’ve killed myself,” Howard admitted. “A healthy young man produces testosterone,” he continued, sharing his beliefs why an young man has a need for speed. “That puts you in a position where you’re going to challenge yourself, and continually put yourself in situations that might be harmful.”

Howard is a father-of-five. In addition to Hunter, the talented actor also shares daughters Aubrey and Heaven with his ex-wife, Lori, who was his first wife. With his third wife, Mira Pak, Howard is father to sons Qirin and Hero.
