The music world was left in shock when it was announced Fatman Scoop had died at the age of 56.

The rapper and Be Faithful hitmaker died on August 30 after collapsing on stage and his heartbroken family confirmed the news in a statement.

Now, the cause of death for Fatman Scoop, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, has been revealed.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed to the publication that he died of “hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease”.

Hypertensive heart disease is caused by unmanaged high blood pressure over a long period of time, Cleveland Clinic says.

Atherosclerosis affects the arteries, according to multiple health websites.

On September 1, his family shared a statement and tribute to Fatman Scoop on Instagram, confirming his sudden passing.

“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic Fatman Scoop,” they wrote.

“Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life. Fatman Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle, and a friend.”

They went on to call the late music star the “undisputed voice of the club” and said his legacy would live on forever.

“As we mourn the loss of Fatman Scoop, we also celebrate his remarkable life and the countless lives he touched. Fatman Scoop’s legacy is of love and brightness, it will reside in our hearts and memories forever.”

Just before his death, he performed in Connecticut when fans captured him collapsing mid-performance.
