Filming for Practical Magic 2 is officially underway, with Nicole Kidman sharing a video from her first day on set of the long-awaited sequel.
In the short Instagram clip, Kidman embraces her co-star Sandra Bullock as they stand near a grave, while a crew member is heard telling cameras to “keep rolling”.

“The witches are back. Owens sisters’ first day on set!” the Aussie star wrote, referencing their characters Sally and Gillian Owens, who have magical abilities.
For fans of 1998’s Practical Magic, the styling of the image is instantly nostalgic.
Both actresses are wearing dresses reminiscent of those seen in the original movie, while the long, straight red hair – plus fringe – memorably worn by Kidman is back.

In the original movie, based on a book of the same name by Alice Hoffman, Kidman and Bullock’s characters are born into a magical family and raised by their aunts.
The sisters lean into their legacy of witchcraft to battle evil.
The news of the sequel was announced last year, and in May it was confirmed Bullock and Kidman would be reprising their roles as Sally and Gillian.

Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing will also be returning as Aunt Jet and Aunt Frances.
However, Evan Rachel Wood, the actress who played Kylie Owens, one of the daughters of Bullock’s character, has been recast.
”I’ll just clear it up now: I was not asked to come back and be in the #PracticalMagic sequel,” she wrote on Instagram, saying she’d been asked “a lot” about whether she was returning.
“I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are recasting.
“I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.”
While the original Practical Magic film wasn’t a commercial success, only earning $68.3 million against a $75 million budget, it gained a cult following on home entertainment.
The sequel’s release date is currently set for September 18, 2026.
It will mark Bullock’s big-screen return after the actress took some time off following the death of her partner Bryan Randall.
He died in 2023, at the age of 57, after a three-year battle with ALS.
Bullock’s last movie was the 2022 romantic comedy The Lost City with Channing Tatum.
