Hugh Grant caught dozing off at Wimbledon after bagging a ticket to the coveted Royal Box

Jul 9, 2025

Being a parent can be tiring. Being a father of five kids aged 13 to six must be downright exhausting.

So it is little wonder that former Lothario turned family man Hugh Grant needs to grab some shut eye when he can.

And it seems not even being one of the world’s most famous actors at one of the world’s most famous sporting events, with the eyes and lenses of the world on him, could keep the father-of five awake at Wimbledon.

Grant was just one of the many celebrities who have turned up in the Royal Box at Wimbledon since the event began on June 30.

The Royal Box, a Wimbledon institution since 1922, is a strictly invite-only section next to the stadium’s Centre Court that sits 74 people, with no tickets available to the public.

After arriving with his wife Anna Elisabet Eberstein for day 10 of the action and taking their seats, the pair at first looked animated and were even spotted sharing a laugh.

Grant was also seen chatting to Queen Camilla, who was seated in the row ahead of him with her sister Annabel Elliot.

The men’s singles quarter-final match between Flavio Cobolli of Italy and Novak Djokovic of Serbia eventually got underway, but as the minutes stretched into hours, eagle-eyed crowd-watchers noticed Grant had appeared to nod off.

While the dark sunglasses he had donned shielded his eyes, it certainly appeared to fans watching at home on TV that Grant had in fact fallen asleep

“Hugh Grant falling asleep in the Royal box during the Novak Djokovic and Flavio Cobolli match at Wimbledon,” wrote one tennis fan on X, formerly Twitter.

“Did Hugh Grant just fall asleep in the Royal Box?” wrote another along with a laughing emoji.

Grant, 64, has five children, including three with Eberstein and two with former partner, Tinglan Hong.

Once well known for his bachelor status, he welcomed Tabitha, now 13, when he was 51 with Hong.

He then welcomed John, 12, with Eberstein before welcoming Felix, now 11, with Tong.

He went on to have two more children with Eberstein, whom he married in 2018, daughters Lulu, eight, and Blue, six.

He told People in 2023 he was “too old” for such a large brood of children when asked how he spent his downtime.

“I have no fun at all. I’m swamped in children, and I’m too old for them.”
