Katy Perry nearly falls from metal sphere during Aussie concert in the latest on-stage malfunction to strike the pop girlies

Jul 1, 2025

Katy Perry almost made it the end of her marathon Aussie tour without any major stage malfunctions. Almost.

During her penultimate show at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, the pop superstar very nearly fell from a giant metal sphere above the stage.

But, being the pro she is, Perry handled the whole situation very calmly.

Watch the video above.

A video shared by a fan on X (formerly Twitter) shows Perry inside a metallic sphere holding onto cables above her head, preparing to be lifted above the crowd.

It’s not an unusual move for Perry – she previously warned fans the Lifetimes tour would be a “huge Disneyland on wheels-type tour”, and has done this stunt every night while performing throughout Australia.

But this time, things very nearly went horribly wrong.

As the stage hands setting up the sphere let go and it began to rise above the stage, the contraption suddenly tilted, forcing Perry to shift her weight to stop her feet from slipping out underneath her.

As she tried to push herself up from the floor looming below her, the Firework singer kept a tight grip on the cables above her head.

The sphere began to swing as a drum beat played in the background and the stage-hands rushed back toward Perry before things could get any worse.

They managed to take a hold of the sphere, slowly turning it to the correct angle as the crowd erupted in cheers for the safety of the singer.

While we’d love to say a near-death on-stage mishap is a rare occurrence for the pop girlies putting their all into their live performances, we would be lying.

Just last week a similar, arguably scarier, malfunction occurred during Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour in Houston.

Beyoncé stops show after 'scary' stage malfunction

The singer’s hometown show was brought to an abrupt stop during her song 16 Carriages, which she performs in a prop car, flying above the crowd.

Mid-way through the song, the car came to a stop and began to tilt to the side as Beyoncé stopped singing, saying “Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.”

She appeared to be wearing a harness as she gripped onto the car and waited calmly for her team to lower her to safety.

In videos of the moment shared to social media, fans could be heard saying, “Get her down, she sounds scared.”

“Thank y’all for your patience,” she said to her fans as they cheered for her.

As the car inched closer to the ground, it stopped tilting and Beyoncé adjusted her position on top of the car before the crowd lights were turned off.

Once the car was safely on the ground, security helped Beyoncé out of the prop vehicle as she quickly left the stage, returning soon after to finish the performance.

So, if there’s one lesson we’ve learnt over recent weeks, it’s that our female pop icons simply aren’t getting the respect they deserve!

These women are putting their life on the line to give fans a killer performance, maybe it’s time we appreciated that a little more.
