Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the 1995 film is set to be an executive producer on the new project alongside Robert Lawrence, who produced the original film.

This show will be written and executive produced by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Jordan Weiss, with the program being produced by CBS Studios in association with Universal Television.

Schwartz and Savage are best known for creating Gossip Girl and are executive producing the reboot.

Weiss penned the screenplay for the highly anticipated sequel of Freaky Friday, Freakier Friday, which will see Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reprise their roles.

This iteration of the TV show is set to be different to the previous one planned in 2020 by Peacock, which did not come to fruition.

That show was described as more of a mystery series, with the plot following the disappearance of Silverstone’s character Cher Horowitz and instead focusing on her friend, Dionne.

The upcoming show is not the first Clueless TV show to come to light, with a television adaptation of the film airing from 1996 until 1999 following the film’s success.

Also created by Amy Heckerling, this version saw Silverstone replaced with Rachel Blanchard, while David Lascher took on Paul Rudd’s role.

However, Stacey Dash who played Dionne, Donald Faison, who played Murray, Elisa Donovan who played Amber, and many others reprised their film roles.

The new show is also not the first time Silverstone has reprised her role, having recently played her beloved character in a Super Bowl advertisement for Rakuten in 2023.
