It’s been 30 years since the now-iconic comedy and romance film Muriel’s Wedding came out in 1994 putting young actress Toni Collette on the map.
And on Saturday, the Aussie star, 52, revisited the early days of her career – and one of her most iconic roles – as she attended a special screening of the film at the Glasgow Film Festival.
Much to the delight of fans, the actress surprised fans by entering the theatre singing and dancing to ABBA’s hit song Dancing Queen and going unnoticed at first.

The crowd and organisers were already up and dancing to the hit song, when the actress joined in on the fun and had a laugh to cheers from the crowd.
Soon, fans began screaming as they recognised her famous face.
Later, ahead of the film being shown, she made a short speech and remarked how special the film was to her and to fans.
“I turned 21 when I was making this movie and I’ve now turned 52. It just really amazes me that an experience that changed my life profoundly still resonates with people,” she said.

“And this character means so much to people and continues to inspire people. So thank you for having her here tonight.”
In an Instagram post, Collette said she was invited to film an introductory message for fans at the screening, but instead decided to hop on a train from London to Glasgow to surprise fans in person.
“I had no idea how much love would be in that room. Love for Muriel. Love for the film. And love for me,” she wrote in her post.

“It was outrageously fun, and quite moving. When I was twenty I had no idea how this story would resonate all these years later. Wow wow wow.
“Thank you for having me. I’m truly touched.”
Since Muriel’s Wedding, which saw her character Muriel go on a quest to find love and a husband, Collette has gone on to find huge success in Hollywood.
She has starred in films including The Sixth Sense, About a Boy and Little Miss Sunshine.
The star recently reflected on working again with her About a Boy co-star Nicholas Hoult, 22 years after playing mother and son in the hit 2002 film.
The pair have just reunited on the Clint Eastwood thriller film Juror No.2, which also stars Kiefer Sutherland and Zoey Deutch.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about their new work, the Australian actress said it’s “surreal” to be working again with Hoult, now 35.
“It’s amazing to have worked with someone as a kid, and then, suddenly, there they are as a man,” she told the outlet.
She said there is a “maternal feeling” that comes with playing a mother on screen.
She added how she felt so “proud” of him as an actor and said she always knew how “talented” he was and is.
