‘He wishes it were him’: Hilaria Baldwin reveals toll Rust shooting took on Alec

Hilaria Baldwin has opened up about the aftermath of the Rust shooting and its toll on her husband, Alec Baldwin.

On their new TLC show The Baldwins, Hilaria revealed on episode two, ”I found these text messages the other day between us the day after… and he said he wanted to kill himself.

She then told the camera in an interview, ”He has survivor’s guilt. You’re involved in this thing that nobody could even possibly imagine.

“And so it goes back to that day,” she said soberly, “He wishes it were him. He would change places in a second.”

The incident also affected his physical and mental health “tremendously,” the 41-year- old said of her husband.

“The past few years all of a sudden he started having heart problems, he’s been hospitalised multiple times, he’s fainted,” she said.

“It’s hard sometimes… but hopefully we’re in the hardest [part] but the tail end of it.”

The shooting incident occurred on October 21, 2021 in Bonanza City, New Mexico on the set of Alec’s film Rust.

A live round was discharged from a prop revolver used by the actor, which fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

Alec Baldwin criminal charges dismissed

After his trial last year, Alec had his charges dismissed with prejudice by the trial judge.

It’s not the only controversy that has been addressed on the show.

Hilaria also addressed her fake accent controversy, with rumours alleging she fabricated her Spanish roots when she was actually born in Boston and her birth name is Hilary.

Speaking about the 2020 incident, she said, “I love English, I also love Spanish, and when I mix the two it doesn’t make me inauthentic, and when I mix the two, that makes me normal,” she said on the show, per People.

“I’d be lying if I said [the controversy] didn’t make me sad, and it didn’t hurt, and it didn’t put me in dark places.

“But it was my family, my friends, my community who speak multiple languages, who have belonged in multiple places and realise that we are a mix of all these different things and that’s going to have an impact on how we sound and an impact on how we articulate things and the words that we choose and our mannerisms.”

Hilaria Baldwin and Alec Baldwin with their seven kids.

“That’s normal,” she added. “That’s called being human.”

Hilaria and Alec have been wed since 2017 and share seven children together: Ilaria Catalina Irena, two, María Lucía Victoria, three, Eduardo Pao Lucas, four, Romeo Alejandro David, six, Leonardo Ángel Charles, eight, Rafael Thomas, nine, and Carmen Gabriela, 11.
