Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen were one of the most iconic Hollywood couples of the early 2000s.

Now, the actress and reality star, 54, has spoken about their short-lived marriage and subsequent split to People magazine, calling it a ”rollercoaster”.

However, Richards insists they’re happily co-parenting their teen daughters and have a good relationship.

“I wouldn’t have Sami and Lola if it weren’t for him,” the actress says, calling their marriage “destiny”.

“It was a rollercoaster… more than people even know,” she told the publication as she reflected on their relationship at the time.

“Everyone told me not to go out with him, but I didn’t want to judge him based on the tabloids.”

Sheen and Richards met in 2000 and tied the knot two years later.

They went on to have two children together, but Richards filed for divorce in 2005 while pregnant with their second in a messy split.

The former couple first met while filming the R-rated film, Good Advice, which was released in 2001.

Sheen, the son of actor Martin Sheen, was known for his work on Two and a Half Men, but has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction over the years.

He’s now sober. In 2023, it was reported he was nearly six years sober.

“The behind-the-scenes stuff was way worse than what was out there,” Richards reportedly said on the Divorced Not Dead podcast recently, confirming they once reconciled before their divorce was finalised in 2006.

She added: “It’s very funny because a lot of people think on the outside, things are great.”

However after their divorce, a custody battle soon ensued.

Since then however, the pair have moved on.

Denise is now married to Aaron Phypers, tying the knot back in 2018, and Sheen moved on with Brooke Muller, who he was married to from 2008 to 2011.

But more recently, Sheen spoke about being friends with Richards, previously telling People: “We’re absolutely friendly. We went through so much s–t together that I don’t think either one of us has any energy left to be divisive.”
