Jennifer Lopez has opened up about how she overcomes hardships in what appears to be a reference to her divorce from Ben Affleck.

In an interview with Judy Robles – the mother of Anthony Robles, the wrestler born with one leg – who Lopez plays in her new film Unstoppable, the actress touched on the hardships displayed in the film and how she overcomes them in her own life.

“I think the way I overcome things is not by thinking of them as happening to me but happening for me and what is the lesson that needs to be learned in the moment,” she said in the British Vogue interview.

“When I think of things that way and stay in a kind of a more positive mindset about it, it’s easier to kind of embrace it for the lesson that it is.

“Because that’s really what our hardships are in life,” she said, “What am I supposed to learn here? There are no coincidences. This is not happening, you know, just randomly. It’s happening for a reason.”

The Honey star says she asks herself, ”What can I learn and how can I come out the other side better, stronger, more knowledgeable and kind of evolve and grow from this point?”

The actress has previously broken her silence over her divorce, saying that it has helped her learn her lesson.

She told comedian Nikki Glaser in an chat with Interview Magazine in October, “I think to myself … ‘Thank you, god. I’m sorry it took me so long. I’m sorry that you had to do this to me so many times. I should have learned it two or three times ago. I get it.'”

She says she finally learned the lesson that she is “capable of joy and happiness” on her own.

The 55-year-old was originally involved with Affleck, 52, from 2002, famously breaking off their relationship days before their wedding in 2004. They rekindled their relationship two decades later, wedding in 2022 and divorcing earlier this year.
