Teddi Mellencamp is speaking out after Dorit Kemsley’s claim that the two were not “close friends” on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. While Dorit acknowledged their friendship, she made it clear that they were not particularly tight. But Teddi, never one to shy away from confrontation, quickly clapped back, revealing some telling details about their past—and the turning point when things started to go “askew.”
In a recent RHOBH episode, Dorit and Teddi Mellencamp’s relationship came into question after Dorit said they were friends, but not “close friends.” However, the situation quickly became murkier when Kyle Richards pointed out that Dorit had recently reposted a video of herself, Teddi, and others dancing onstage with Teddi’s famous dad, John Mellencamp. According to Kyle, this was proof that Dorit and Teddi were much closer than she was letting on.
The video, which Dorit reposted, showed a fun, carefree moment from a night out. It featured Dorit alongside Teddi and other close friends having a blast, making Kyle’s argument that Dorit and Teddi Mellencamp shared a stronger bond than she was claiming. Kyle even noted that Dorit had tagged Teddi at the top of the screen, which seemed to indicate a closer connection than Dorit was admitting.
In the aftermath of Dorit’s statement, Teddi received strong support from her friends Kyle and Erika Jayne. During an RHOBH: After Show segment, Erika speculated that Dorit reposted the video because, well, she looked great in it—alongside the added bonus of hanging out with John Mellencamp. Kyle added that Dorit likely posted it because she was having fun with Teddi and the group, reaffirming their friendship.
Both Kyle and Erika stood firm in their defense of Teddi, pushing back against the negative perceptions some fans have of her. As Erika bluntly put it, Teddi and Dorit are indeed “friends,” despite any public drama suggesting otherwise.
Teddi was grateful for the support and shared a clip on Instagram, joking about her birthday celebration in Mexico. She captioned the video, “Celebrating my birthday with my ‘not close friends’ in Mexico,” while tagging Kyle and Erika with a message of thanks.
Despite the public show of solidarity from Kyle and Erika, Teddi revealed that her friendship with Dorit had been much closer in the past. In an interview on her Two Ts In A Pod podcast, Teddi reflected on a time when they were very close, especially after Dorit’s traumatic home invasion. Teddi shared that she was one of the first people Dorit called and rushed to her side the following day to support her through the ordeal.
However, Teddi also explained that their relationship began to falter after she was let go from RHOBH. She recalled a moment at BravoCon where Dorit made a cutting remark about her fashion choices, calling her the “worst dressed.” Teddi didn’t hold back, confronting Dorit about the comment in their group chat, saying, “You don’t need to hit me when I’m down.” That exchange marked the beginning of their relationship’s decline.
As Teddi explained, their friendship grew more distant over time, with less effort being put into seeing one another. While their “Fox Force 5” group had once been incredibly close, texting “a million times a day,” the bond had weakened after Teddi’s departure from the show.
At this point, Teddi says that she and Dorit are no longer close, and it seems like they’ve both moved on in different directions. Despite the ups and downs, Teddi Mellencamp is still very much grateful for the support of her friends Kyle and Erika, who continue to defend her against public scrutiny.
