Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been hospitalized following a seemingly serious injury during a trip to Luxembourg.

The 84-year-old was in Luxembourg with a bipartisan congressional delegation marking the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge when she sustained an injury and was admitted to the hospital, her office said Friday.

“While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg… Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” spokesperson Ian Krager said. “Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.”

Sources indicate the career politician injured her left leg in a fall, though Krager did not elaborate on the severity. RTL Luxembourg reported she was taken to Kirchberg Hospital in Luxembourg City. Despite her hospitalization, Krager noted Pelosi is working from the hospital and “looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon.”

Pelosi, who served 20 years as Democratic leader in the House, remains a prominent party figure. She was re-elected in November to represent San Francisco and holds the title of Speaker Emerita.

The delegation of 18 lawmakers, led by GOP Rep. Michael McCaul, honored the pivotal World War II battle. McCaul expressed disappointment Pelosi could not attend remaining events but added, “I’m confident she will be back on her feet in no time.”
