Teddi Mellencamp is opening up about her life after filing for divorce from her husband, Edwin Arroyave. In a candid conversation on her “Diamonds in the Rough” podcast, the 43-year-old former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star revealed that she’s been staying with her good friend and former co-star Kyle Richards during this challenging time.
“I live at Kyle’s,” Teddi Mellencamp casually shared on the premiere episode of her podcast, which aired Thursday. Her co-host, Erika Jayne, was taken aback, responding with a surprised, “Do you really? Holy s–t!”
Mellencamp went on to explain that she’s been spending time at Richards’ home, even mentioning that she had seen Jayne “filming in the glam room” at Kyle’s place. To which Kyle humorously quipped, “Is that where you’re sleeping?”
Teddi, clearly in good spirits despite her personal struggles, jokingly proposed that she and Erika “start podding from there,” to which Jayne enthusiastically agreed, adding that it would be the perfect setup because “the house is empty.”
The setup might sound unconventional, but it’s clearly working well for Mellencamp — and her kids. After all, Richards’ estranged husband, Mauricio Umansky, moved out earlier this year, leaving her home with some extra space.
“Thankfully, Kyle has let me do that,” Teddi Mellencamp shared, explaining how she and Arroyave, 47, are currently navigating a “nesting” arrangement. For those unfamiliar with the term, “nesting” is a practice often used by divorcing parents where the kids stay in the family home while the parents take turns living elsewhere.
Mellencamp’s situation is particularly interesting, as she filed for divorce from Arroyave last month after 13 years of marriage. The couple shares three children: daughter Slate, 12, son Cruz, 10, and daughter Dove, 4. Not long after, Teddi’s affair with her married horse trainer was publicly exposed, which added further complexity to the situation.
Despite the tumult, Mellencamp and Arroyave have come to an agreement on joint legal and physical custody of their children. “So, I just zip on over. It’s close. It’s easy. She cooks — sometimes,” Teddi added, speaking fondly of Richards and the support she’s received. “It works out really well for the kids.”
Erika Jayne, who is also estranged from her own husband, couldn’t hide her disbelief at the arrangement. “Up there?” she asked, clearly amazed. To which Teddi responded, “Yeah! Isn’t it great up there? It’s so cozy. Isn’t that a dream up there? You wanna move in with me?”
