Pop star Charli XCX has opened up about suffering “physical damage” from performing on tour.
Charlotte Emma Aitchison, better known by her stage name Charli XCX, climbed the charts this year with her hit album Brat, which became a popular culture phenomenon.
The album success was followed with a co-headlining tour called Sweat alongside her friend and Aussie collaborator Troye Sivan, who released his own album in 2023.
But in a new sit-down interview with Variety, the 365 singer admitted she finds going on tour “really hard emotionally” for a difficult reason.

“I find the stage – especially these days – to be a very angry place for me,” she said.
“I’ve done a lot of physical damage to my body from performing, and I’m often in a lot of pain when I perform,” the pop star continued, adding she had suffered nerve damage.
“For me to give a performance that I feel is good enough, I have to really physically throw myself around – and that makes me very upset when I do it.”
“So it’s kind of this hell hole.”
However, her latest experience on tour with Sivan was “less of an emotional battle”.
As part of their Sweat tour, Charli XCX and Sivan toured 22 cities in the United States and Canada across September and October.

The pop star said Sivan and other people on the tour made her “feel a lot lighter”.
Charli XCX has been on the music scene since her debut 2013 album True Romance.
Some of her biggest hits from the 2010s included Boom Clap and Boys. She also featured on the Icona Pop song I Love It and Iggy Azalea’s 2014 hit, Fancy.
Her latest hit record Brat was released in June 2024.
In October it was announced Charli XCX would be coming Down Under to headline at Laneway Festival in February 2025.
The festival will take place across six locations with events in Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

After the pop sensation was confirmed as a headlining act, it was the first time in Laneway’s 20–year history that two locations sold out on the day of general ticket sale.
Other headlining acts for the festival include Filipino-British singer Beabadoobe, Clairo, Olivia Dean and Stranger Things actor and artist Joe Keery, whose stage name is Djo.
Charli XCX previously performed at Laneway Festival in 2020.
