After being a fan of the franchise for years, Isla Fisher has finally been able to take on a role in the fourth Bridget Jones film, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.
Soon after news of the upcoming film was announced, Fisher was spotted by paparazzi on set and it spread like wildfire.
“I think ’cause the paparazzi followed me, I’ve been talked about a lot in the movie,” Fisher, who has recently partnered with Air New Zealand, exclusively tells 9honey Celebrity.

But despite her name being circled in many conversations about the much-anticipated film, she actually only plays a very small part in the film.
“I only have three scenes,” Fisher explains.
“It’s a really fun cameo, I’ve always been a fan of that franchise.”
While it’s only a small cameo, it’s a role that’s been years in the making for Fisher, after she was offered and had to turn down roles in the earlier films.
“I was offered a role in the first one and a role in the second one. Just like small roles but couldn’t do them [because I had] other work. So this was just so fun.”

Fisher added that it was an honour to be able to “hang out with Renée [Zellweger]” who plays the titular character Bridget Jones in the film.
“[She’s] just so, so sweet and so just I love her,” Fisher said.
It wasn’t just Zellweger who Fisher loved spending time with on set; Fisher shared that working with the production company Working Title and the director Michael Morris was a treat.
But there was one particular person involved in the project who had a significant impact on Fisher.

“[It was so fun to hang out with] the absolute brilliant and formidable and incredible Helen Fielding, who’s just a legend,” Fisher said.
“I’ve always been absolutely obsessed with Helen Fielding and her kind of observational humour and clever commentary on relationship and social expectations.”
Fielding is the writer behind the iconic Bridget Jones franchise and on top of being enamoured by her creative talent, Fisher also received priceless emotional support from Fielding during a time she really needed it.
In early 2023, Fisher farewelled her father Brian Fisher.
“How do you live without someone that you can’t live without,” Fisher captioned a photo of her and her dad as she announced his passing on Instagram.

The time following was understandably filled with grief and Fielding stepped in as a source of great comfort.
“I knew her when my father died, she actually lives very near me and she has lost people in her life, and she just very very gently and kindly took me under [her] wing when my dad died and she would sort of just call me up and be there for me and recommend books on grief,” Fisher explained.
“To me Helen Fielding created more than just a character in Bridget Jones, she was like a cultural touchstone and I just love her not just in a literary way, as a human being and [it] was just so nice to be in her world.
“It felt so lucky – I’m so grateful to her.”
