Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have always been open about their parenting style, balancing fun and discipline in their bustling family life.

Recently, Legend shared one important rule that they follow when their older kids receive new toys—something that might surprise you! In a world where kids often accumulate endless amounts of stuff, Teigen and Legend have found a way to keep things in check while encouraging gratitude and sharing.

So, just what is the one special rule that Teigen and Legend have instituted in their household when their kids get new toys? It is simple: the children have to give a toy away when they receive a new toy.

“We, in fact, require them to give away some toys whenever we get them new toys,” the EGOT-winner said of his eldest children, Luna and Miles, in a recent interview with Parents.com. “We try to put that in practice with them, so that they understand how blessed they are, but also that they have the opportunity to help other people, and they should use that opportunity.”

Legend continued saying that when his younger two, Esti and Wren, will be encouraged to do the same when they get older.

In a separate interview with NBC Insider, The Voice coach told the outlet that he is happy to be in Los Angeles filming the poplar show as it allows him to work locally so that he can spend time with his children.

“I also love that, you know, I live here in Los Angeles, I have four kids,” he said, adding, “It’s nice to work at home, basically, you know? And [it’s nice to] be able to take my kids to school in the morning and then go to work.”

As mentioned, Teigen and Legend share four children: daughters, Luna Simone, 8, and Esti Maxine, 22 months, along with sons Miles Theodore, 6, and Wren Alexander, 16 months.
