Dolly Parton has suffered a tragic loss in her family with the death of her brother David Parton, aged 82.

The news was shared by their sister, singer Stella Parton, on social media. On X, formerly Twitter, she wrote, “My brother David Passed away peacefully this morning. It’s never easy to say goodbye to a loved one but he got his angel wings and is now at peace.”

She wrote on Facebook on Friday November 15 (Saturday November 16 in Australia), ”It’s never easy to lose a loved one. My wonderful brother David Parton passed in the early hours of the morning.”

In another post on Saturday, November 16 (Sunday November 17 in Australia), “Thank you for all your kind thoughts to my family as we continue to grieve the loss of our much loved and cherished oldest brother David.”

Dolly has yet to comment on the death.

David’s obituary, posted online by Farrar Funeral Home in White Pine, Tennessee, confirmed that he passed away at his home.

It did not specify a cause of death, but it did add, “The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. David McNabney, Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice, his Cornerstone caregiver, Aubrie Smith & caregiver, Robin Schmidt.”

Unlike his famous siblings, David decided to keep out of the spotlight, working as a bridge builder, having retired from Simpson Construction as a bridge builder superintendent after working on many of the bridges in Tennessee.

David is the oldest son among Dolly’s 11 siblings, which include six brothers and five sisters. Those remaining include Willadeene, 84, Coy, 81, Robert Jr., 76, Stella, Cassie, 73, Frieda, 67, Rachel, 65.

He was preceded in death by three of his brothers, Randy, Larry and Floyd, his infant son, Donnie, his parents Robert Lee and Avie Lee Owens Parton, and more.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay Parton, as well as three children and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
