What was seemingly meant to be a romantic date night has turned into a disaster for one couple.

During the kiss cam segment at a Coldplay concert at Boston’s Gillette Stadium on Wednesday night, the camera panned to a man and woman who appeared to be perfectly loved-up.

However, things quickly went south when the duo realised what was happening.

When the camera first found the couple, they had their arms wrapped around one another, swaying to the music.

“Look at these two,” lead singer Chris Martin mused of the sweet moment.

But, as soon as they noticed what was going on, the pair very quickly separated.

As the woman turned her back to the camera and the man ducked below the railing, Martin could be heard saying, “Oh, what?”

“Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” he added.

In an additional video taken right after the incident, Martin could be heard saying, “Holy s–t. I hope we didn’t do something bad.”

Multiple US media publications, including the New York Post and Page Six, have identified the couple as co-workers – Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the firm’s chief human resources officer, Kristin Cabot.

At the time of publishing, neither party have confirmed their appearance at the concert and 9Honey is not suggesting any allegations of an affair are true.

While the internet has had a field day with the awkward moment, with videos amassing millions of view on TikTok, this isn’t the first time a star has wielded their kiss cam power in an unfortunate way.

During one of Olivia Rodrigo’s Sydney concerts last year, she put the spotlight on a couple in the audience.

“You guys are so cute,” she quipped as the audience cheered.

”Hey, I have a really cute, fun thing to ask. Would you guys give us a kiss on the Guts Cam?”

Rodrigo’s plan quickly fell apart when the pair she had thought was a couple, promptly explained to her that they were in fact brother and sister.

“She’s your sister?!,” the pop star exclaimed.

“S–t! Never mind, never mind, scrap that.”
