‘I’ve been amongst some of the most fanatic crowds you can imagine, but nothing compares to what I just witnessed’

Jul 15, 2025

I like to think of myself as somewhat of a pop culture connoisseur.

I’ve been to my fair share of concerts, from record-breaking stadium shows to intimate indie gigs, and I’ve worked my fair share of red carpets – until tonight I thought I’d seen most of what there was to see.

But on Tuesday evening I stood for nearly three hours on the red carpet for the premiere of Pedro Pascal’s latest film, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and let me tell you, I’ve never seen anything like it.

Now, I’m well aware that Pascal is quite the star of the moment, he seems to be in nearly everything these days.

And while I thought I was a huge fan of the chiseled Chilean actor (I have seriously thought about investing in a blanket with his face on it) I hadn’t quite grasped just how deep some people’s love for him ran.

When I arrived on the carpet I was taken to my spot in the media area, where behind me stood a group of lovely girls who I struck up a conversation with.

Turns out the group, who had travelled from Bathurst for the chance to spot Pascal in and around Sydney, had been standing in that same spot since 6AM and I had just arrived to block their view.

Despite the situation, they held no grudge against me and even helped me to set up my camera.

As I posed on the carpet pretending to be one of the stars of the film, I wondered out loud how tall Pascal was – was my camera at the right angle to capture him?

But I didn’t have to wonder long as the biggest Pascal fanatic of the group promptly informed me, “he’s 5’11”,” before bursting into tears at the mere thought of her hero being stood just a metre away within the next hour.

So, I waited and waited, and waited, for the stars of the film to arrive, wondering, “would they even notice them amid all the chaos?”

What a foolish thought that was.

Joseph Quinn walked out first as the crowd erupted into cheers, followed by Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Vanessa Kirby, the crowd only getting louder for each star.

But what happened when Pascal walked out is something I will never forget.

Now, I was lucky enough to score tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and was witness to the sheer volume that came from the crowd when she took to the stage and I have to say, the crowd at the premiere – probably only 100 to 200 people – rivalled the noise that echoed throughout the stadium that night.

I watched the volume levels on my microphone absolutely skyrocket as Pascal walked out with his signature cheeky grin and a gentle wave to the crowd.

He shared that not only was this his first time in Australia but he would (very enthusiastically) definitely be back.

As he walked down the barricade, fans appeared to almost be climbing over one another at the chance of getting close to the star.

While Quinn, Moss-Bachrach and Kirby all received more than warm welcomes, it’s safe to say nothing compared to the pure pandemonium of Pascal’s presence.

But, flowers where flowers are due, the actor remained calm as ever amid the chaos, taking his time to speak to fans, take pictures and sign autographs – one of the reasons he has such a strong following.

And although I didn’t get a long conversation with the star (I thought) I love so much, I did get a quick hello.

While the other stars spent majority of their time with the media, Pascal was all about the fans, and I have to respect him for that.

So, for now, I will have to hold the star to his promise of another trip Down Under.

Until next time, Pedro.
