Julian McMahon’s cause of death has been revealed, just days after news of his shock passing at the age of 56.
The Australian actor’s wife announced his death on Sunday, revealing the star – best known for roles in TV shows Charmed and Nip/Tuck – had been fighting a cancer battle.
Now, further details have come to light on the Sydney-born Hollywood star’s private health battle.

McMahon died from lung metastasis as a result of head and neck metastatic cancer, according to a Cremation Approval Summary Report from the Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s Office in Florida obtained by People magazine.
The father-of-one died in Clearwater, Florida, on July 2 and the US publication reports his remains have since been cremated.
His daughter Madison Elizabeth McMahon, who he shares with second wife Brooke Burns, posted a tribute to her beloved father during the week.
She remembered him by re-posting a black and white image of the actor, accompanied by the Van Morrison track Sometimes We Cry, believed to be McMahon’s favourite song.

McMahon’s third wife Kelly Paniagua, who he married in 2014, announced the news of his shock death in a statement to Deadline.
“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” she said.

McMahon was thrust into the spotlight for the first time at the age of two when his father, Sir William McMahon, was elected Australia’s prime minister.
The actor broke into Hollywood after starting on soaps The Power, The Passion, as well as Home & Away.
It was on Home & Away he met his first wife was Dannii Minogue, with the Aussie power couple marrying in 1994 and splitting less than two years later.
McMahon was born in Sydney in July 1968, to parents Sir William and Lady Sonia McMahon. He had an older sister, Melinda, and a younger sister, Deborah.
When he was born, his father was already a well-known MP and minister, and he was elected prime minister in 1971, finishing his term in 1972.
In 2000, McMahon landed what would become one of his most iconic roles: Cole Turner in supernatural series Charmed.
Starring big Hollywood names including Alyssa Milano and the late Shannen Doherty, Charmed was a huge hit and well and truly cemented McMahon on the world stage in its 2000-2005 run.
Milano took to social media to share a poignant statement on his passing shortly after the news broke.
“That smile. That laugh. That talent. That presence. He walked into a room and lit it up—not just with charisma, but with kindness. With mischief. With soulful understanding,” she wrote, alongside a collection of photos of the pair together over the years…” she wrote.
“We spent years together on Charmed – years of scenes, stories, and so many in-between moments. He made me feel safe as an actor. Seen as a woman. He challenged me, teased me, supported me. We were so different, and yet somehow we always understood each other.
“Julian was more than my TV husband. He was a dear friend. The kind who checks in. The kind who remembers. The kind who shares. The kind who tells you the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable – but always with love.
“Rest, my friend. I’ll carry your laugh with me. Forever Cole. Forever Julian.”
Dylan Walsh, who starred alongside Carlson and McMahon in Nip/Tuck, shared a tribute with Deadline, saying that he was “stunned” when he heard the news.
“We rode this wave together and I loved him,” he said.
“My heart goes out to Kelly and [their daughter] Maddy.
“Jules! I know you’d want me to say something to make you smile – all the inside jokes. All those years you had my back, and my god, we laughed. My heart is with you. Rest in peace.”
