Jessie J reveals she’s been diagnosed with breast cancer: ‘I am going to disappear for a bit’

British singer Jessie J has revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

In an Instagram video shared on June 3, the Bang Bang singer shared that she has spent this year “in and out of tests” after receiving the news two months ago.

“I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,” the 37-year-old said. “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word ‘early.'”

She jokingly added: “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job,” before sharing that she will be undergoing surgery after her performance at the Summertime Ball in London on June 15.

“I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive t-ts and more music,” she smiled.

The mother-of-one shared that she was hesitant to come out with the news, but eventually decided to be open about her diagnosis.

“Selfishly, I do not talk about it enough,” she said, “I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I’m an open book.”

She also wanted to show solidarity with others going through “similar or worse”.

”It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse –that’s the bit that kills me.”

The singer also felt the timing of her recent releases, No Secrets and Living My Best Life last month, were telling her to share her story.

The tracks were “all pre-planned before I found out about this. I mean, you can’t make it up,” she added.

The Price Tag singer added more about her cancer experience in her Instagram story, telling fans: “The timing of it has been mad but also beautiful and given me this incredible perspective in this time.

“But honestly I need to process it and talk about it and, I need a hug. You have loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don’t want this to be any different.”

Jessie J has always been open with her legion of fans.

Almost one year ago, she received a diagnosis for OCD and ADHD. 

The singer, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, took to Instagram to tell her 13.9 million followers at the time: “I was diagnosed with ADHD and OCD about three months ago.

“In telling people a lot of the reaction I got was “Yeah I mean we knew that” (which I’m sure some of you are doing right now) and of course I knew to some extent but having a baby has let’s say… exposed it a lot more, which was comforting in a way, as it made it feel less heavy and scary.

“But also in moments has made me feel like I can’t talk about it. F–k that. Here I am talking about it. Embracing it with the [world].”

The singer is a mother to two-year-old son Sky, whom she shares with basketball player Chanan Safir Colman.
