A UK coroner has revealed the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of TV personality Paul Danan, who died in January at the age of 46.
The Hollyoaks and Love Island star’s cause of death has been ruled a misadventure after taking a cocktail of prescribed and illicit drugs.
The soap star was found unresponsive and slumped on his sofa in front of the TV at his Bristol home on January 15, an inquest heard.

He was declared dead at the scene and identified by his partner, Melissa Crooks, who raised the alarm when she couldn’t get a hold of him.
It’s understood a ladder was used to get into his first-floor flat.
A post-mortem examination concluded his death was due to combined toxicity of heroin, methadone, codeine, pregabalin, cocaine and zopiclone, contributed to by benzodiazepine use, according to the BBC.
Assistant coroner Deborah Rookes reached her conclusion after hearing written statements from doctors, emergency service workers and Danan’s mother Beverley.

“Paul helped so many people from all walks of life but just couldn’t help himself in the same way,” Beverley said in her written statement.
“His smiling face and love of life will always be remembered.”
Rookes told the hearing at Avon Coroner’s Court in Bristol that there were no indications Danan, who accidentally overdosed in May 2024, intended to take his own life.
“Mr Danan had a long history of drug misuse and struggles with his mental health,” Rookes told the hearing.

“His death was caused by a combination of drugs, both prescription and illicit.
“I don’t have any evidence before me that Paul intended to take his own life at this time. Therefore, the conclusion is misadventure.”
Danan was due to face a plea hearing on charges of possession of cocaine and cannabis on January 16, according to court documents.
He was also accused of driving under the influence of drugs in an incident last October.
The actor had been open about his struggles with sobriety most of his life, having begun battling with substance abuse issues as a teen.
