‘My worst nightmare has come to life’: Aussie actress Clare McCann speaks about her son’s tragic death

Aussie actress Clare McCann has shared a devastating update with her followers after the death of her son. 

The 32-year-old announced that Atreyu had died by suicide after what she claimed to be extreme bullying at school. 

Alongside another photo of the two of them together on a red carpet, she opened up about the pain she is currently facing. 

“As my worst nightmare has come to life my child’s has been stolen,” she wrote.

“It breaks my heart beyond what words can compare to share that in a moment of unbearable pain Atreyu took his own life,” she continued.

McCann claimed that it was not his fault, rather he was let down by the school system and suffered from bullying. 

The filmmaker has also shared a Go Fund Me page in the days after his death, hoping to raise funds to cryogenically preserve his body.

She is hoping that by sharing the heartbreaking story about her son’s death that it will not only raise awareness about bullying, but stop it happening to more children.

McCann first shared the news of his death in a post on Instagram on Saturday.

“It’s with shattered hearts that we share the passing of my beautiful son, Atreyu McCann. He was the brightest light in my world – kind, creative, and endlessly loved,” she wrote.

“Right now, we are grieving a loss that words can’t hold. Please give us time and space as we process this unimaginable pain.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported and loved Atreyu. We’ll share more when we’re ready. For now, please hold him in your hearts.”

The post was flooded with messages of support for the grieving mum from friends and followers.

Atreyu followed in his mum’s footsteps, working in the entertainment industry.

The 13-year-old appeared in his mother’s productions, starring alongside her in film Benefited, as well as the TV series Deadly Women and short Black Truck.

Meanwhile, McCann, who is best known for her role in the Channel V Australia series Blog Party, went on to start her own production company Cherry Productions.

She is also the founder, program manager and ambassador for the Sydney Women’s International Film festival and is a journalist for Sydney outlet Eastern Suburbs Life.
