Robert Irwin speaks about his underwear campaign with US TODAY.

Speaking in a new interview with US Today as he prepares to star on the US version of Dancing With The Stars, Irwin said his family “had a lot of words” when they saw the campaign.

“They were like, ‘Wow, there’s some things we can’t unsee’,” Irwin said.

He continued to explain how the process of becoming one of the brand’s newest faces came about.

“It was wonderful because Bonds, who’s like our massive iconic underwear company in Australia, they came to me and they said, ‘We want to do something that heroes Australian wildlife’,” he said.

“I’ve dedicated my life to conservation, to carrying on an important legacy, protecting our animals.

“They said, ‘We want to showcase that, but you’re gonna be in your undies’. So I said, ‘You know what? Let’s do it’. Life’s about just embracing it.

“So it was fun, mate, it was good.”

Embracing life and our planet in all its glory is a philosophy the late Steve Irwin lived by, and now his son is continuing that legacy.

“He showcased what it was to live 110 per cent and he was larger than life, so enthusiastic but … at his core it was all about conservation and it was all about family,” Irwin says.

“That really is what he was about. He was the best dad in the entire world and I feel like his legacy has never been more important.

“I mean, he was talking about our changing world, our changing climate before a lot of people were before it was mainstream.

Irwin’s interview with US Today comes a month after his Bonds campaign went live.

The campaign formed part of the underwear brand’s push into the US market.

In the photos, Irwin posted shirtless in his underwear and posed with different animals in the wildlife-themed campagin, including snakes wrapped around his neck, a spider crawling on his arm in one picture, and a lizard held in his arms in another.
