Olivia Munn has reflected on her journey of using a surrogate to welcome her second child with husband John Mulaney.
The American actress, 44, and the actor and comedian, 42, are proud parents to son Malcolm, three, and daughter Méi, who was born in September last year via surrogate.
Munn’s world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with stage 1 Luminal B breast cancer in 2023, and soon had ovary removal surgery called an oophorectomy and a partial hysterectomy.

The X-Men: Apocalypse star told Self in a video doctors had told her at one point that “carrying my own baby would put my life at risk”.
“I really, really wanted to carry my next child,” she said, before having her uterus and fallopian tubes removed.
According to Self, in an in-depth chat she did with the publication, Munn previously had egg retrieval done.

Speaking about her surrogate, who she said she still is in touch with, Munn said: “I needed [her] to understand that I needed to go this route.”
She added it was tough, saying: “It makes me emotional – it’s your baby, and the baby is somewhere else in the world.”
Munn praised her surrogate as ”incredible” and “wonderful” and said she is “still in our life”.
When she and Mulaney welcomed Méi, she shared a moving post talking about their use of a gestational surrogate, calling her a “real-life angel”.

“I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter,” Munn admitted.
“When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel.
“Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true.”
She previously shared she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, and had a double mastectomy.
“I was lucky. We caught it with enough time that I had options,” Munn said in a candid post.
“I want the same for any woman who might have to face this one day.”
“Suprisingly, I’ve only cried twice. I guess I haven’t felt like there was time to cry,” she added.
