Peter Jason, a beloved character actor whose roles spanned the biggest films in Hollywood, has died aged 80.
The star is known for taking on eccentric roles in projects such as Deadwood, where he was best known for playing Con Stapleton, as well as in Karate Kid, Jurassic World, and many more.

He especially had a penchant for horror films, having appeared in Prince of Darkness, They Live, In the Mouth of Madness, Village of the Damned, and Escape from L.A., due to a long-running partnership with horror director John Carpenter.
Jason’s death was confirmed by Carpenter in a tweet on X, formerly Twitter.
“Peter Jason, one of the great character actors in cinema, has died. His first movie was Howard Hawks’ RIO LOBO. He was a dear friend and I’ll miss him terribly,” the director penned.

Also adding his voice to the tributes was Titanic actor Billy Zane.
“If there are no words then there certainly is no music.. My dear, dear friend, the brightest light, most generous soul and gregarious of men, the supremely talented and kind Peter Jason has left the set,” Zane shared on Instagram, alongside a number of photos of the star.
“Survived by his lovely wife Eileen and his children, the vacuum felt by his passing gut punched me as I saw it coming.

“All I know is his wake will be widely attended by and teeter somewhere between a Friar’s Roast to a burial at sea befitting an admiral, See you on the back 9 my friend!”
His agent and manager Tom Harrison added, “25 years as his agent and then manager…most importantly my friend….and cohort. The world is a little smaller and a party on the other end…”
Fans also mourned the loss of the actor, who had over 260 screen credits to his name throughout his 58-year-long career.

“This hurt. He was such a force of energy and enthusiasm. It was evident from his onscreen presence. He will be so missed,” wrote one fan in response to Zane’s message.
“A legend in and off the set and now his presence graces the greatest stage of them all. Rest easy brother,” added another.
One fan wrote on X, “He was great in everything! That voice!! His legacy is strong but he will be missed.”
Jason is survived by his wife Eileen whom he wed in 1979, as well as their daughter Robin Goldwasser, who herself is a playwright and the wife of musician John Flansburgh.
