Cynthia Erivo was seemingly sent into a slight panic at the Tokyo premiere of Wicked when she realised she’d accidentally abandoned her struggling co-star.

A video has emerged online of Erivo, director John M. Chu and Ariana Grande walking up a set of stairs onto the stage at the premiere, with Erivo and Chu walking in front of Grande.

As Erivo and Chu reached the top of the stairs, they continued to walk across the stage – not noticing Grande was stuck behind them, struggling to make her way up the stairs because of her dress.

The minute she turned around and saw Grande still stuck mid-staircase, Erivo began to run across the stage arms outstretched to help her friend and co-star, with Chu not far behind.

The duo eventually made it to Grande, helping her make it up the last few stairs and the three continued across the stage together.

Grande, Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater and Marissa Bode all made their way Down Under for the occasion.

The movie then came out on November 21, available in most cinemas across the world.

However, those in Japan have had to wait a little longer to see one of the most highly anticipated films of recent years.

The Tokyo premiere of Wicked took place on Tuesday February 19, with the film not set to be available in cinemas until March 7.

And judging by the crowd at the premiere, those who live in Japan have definitely felt the wait.

The cinema erupted into cheers as the trio took to the stage, all expressing their love for the country.

The cheers only got louder when Grande, in perfectly practiced fluent Japanese, said to the crowd of adoring fans, “I love Japan”.
