‘I had to draw the line at that one’: Outfit Bridgerton star refused to wear

Feb 17, 2025

Bridgerton‘s Queen Charlotte has become renowned for her over-the-top wigs and costumes, which seem to get more extravagant each series.

Actress Golda Rosheuvel, who plays the character, tells 9honey Celebrity there’s only been one outfit in the last three seasons that she’s refused to wear.

“Last season, Erika [Ökvist, hair and make up designer] wanted to put a boat on my head and yeah, I had to draw the line of that one,” Rosheuvel says at the Bridgerton: Seasons of Love event in London.

“We did actually try and it was just impossible, [so] that’s the only thing that I’ve said, ‘No’ to, the ship.”

Her co-star Hugh Sachs, who plays Queen Charlotte’s trusted aide Brimsley, gets a kick out of seeing all the ensembles too.

“I say going to work’s a bit like going to Santa’s grotto every morning, because I don’t know what she’s going to look like and it’s always extraordinary,” Sachs tells 9honey Celebrity.

The duo’s friendship plays out not just in the Bridgerton series but also in the prequel Queen Charlotte and it’s a friendship that’s spilled over off-screen as well.

“We live very near each other as well,” Rosheuvel tells 9honey Celebrity.

“So if I’m up for a coffee or cup of tea, I text him at 10 o’clock and say, ‘cuppa’ … It’s a great friendship, one that I cherished very much.”

Sachs couldn’t agree more.

“We’re both very silly and … we’re basically theatre actors, we suddenly got this amazing opportunity, so we’re just enjoying it,” he says.

“Also, I get to watch her act, which is such a treat,” Sachs continues before telling Rosheuvel to “close your ears”.

“I just think it must be like watching someone like Maggie Smith … to be able to witness that from your friend and to see how the world has taken Golda and the character to heart … it makes me believe in a moral universe. Good things happen to good people.”

The actors have been busy filming Season 4 of the hit Netflix series, which stars Benedict Bridgerton as the man looking for love this time.

Australian actress Yerin Ha will play Sophie Baek, the lead love interest.

Showrunner Jess Brownell tells 9honey Celebrity the upcoming season will stay pretty true to Julia Quinn’s book, which explores the “upstairs/downstairs” dynamic and has a Cinderella fairytale feel to it.

“Maybe there are certain little moments that won’t be in there that people are looking forward to, but I would say the main set pieces are all in there,” she says.

“We’ve tweaked Benedict’s character a little bit just to make him a little more thoughtful about the way he approaches Sophie. But otherwise, it’s pretty faithful.”

Although the show’s about two-thirds of the way through filming, Brownell admits she isn’t sure what might be this season’s “carriage season” – a moment that had fans in raptures.

“It’s hard to say what one piece will pop,” she tells 9honey Celebrity.

“I knew the carriage moment was going to be a big moment, but I didn’t know it would be the moment.

“I have a feeling about two or three moments from Season 4 that I think could make people go wild. But which one we’ll pull ahead, I’m not sure.”
