Two months after cancelling their Australian tour, Sum 41 lead singer Deryck Whibley has shared a series of videos to apologise and explain what happened.
At the end of 2024 the pop-punk band cancelled its appearances at Good Things Festival and the planned sideshows in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
Whibley shared a series of videos recalling Sum 41’s “whirlwind” tour which saw them play shows in Asia, the US, Europe and Canada.

“Now this is the part that I hate,” he said when he reached the seventh video titled “apologies”.

“The fact that we had to miss shows, miss festivals, all I can say is I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry for all the places we couldn’t get to.”
The band was forced to cancel shows when Whibley was diagnosed with pneumonia and became too unwell to complete the tour.
At the time, the band said that it was with “deep sadness” that they had to cancel the shows, explaining that they had been instructed to do so by “multiple Australian doctors”.
“I was there, I did my best, I made it there. Unfortunately, we couldn’t move any of those shows, because they were festivals,” Whibley continued in the video.
“All I can say – and it’s still not enough – but sincerely, I’m so sorry because we really wanted to play; it just really fell out of our control, and I can’t say sorry enough. But I’m truly sorry.”

The cancellations hit fans especially hard since the In Too Deep singers had announced in May 2023 that they would be going their separate ways after one final farewell tour.
“Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives,” read a statement shared separately by band members on May 8, 2023.
“We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first. Sum 41 will be disbanding.
“We will still be finishing all of our current upcoming tour dates this year, and we’re looking forward to releasing our final album Heaven :x: Hell, along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate,” they added.
