South African TikTok star Beandri Booysen has died at the age of 19, her mother confirmed in a heartbreaking statement and tribute.

Booysen died following a battle with Progeria, which according to the Mayo Clinic “causes children to age rapidly”.

In her tribute, shared on Facebook, her mother Bea, who runs the account, said that Booysen was “one of South Africa’s most beloved and inspiring young women” and said she “radiated hope and joy” despite her battle.

“In Loving Memory of Beandri Booysen,” the post began.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Beandri Booysen, one of South Africa’s most beloved and inspiring young women.

“Beandri was not only known for her vibrant personality and infectious laugh but also as the last surviving individual in South Africa living with Progeria – a rare genetic condition that causes children to age prematurely.

Her mother went on to say her daughter “radiated hope and joy” and became a symbol of hope for others.

“Despite the challenges she faced, Beandri radiated hope and joy. She became a symbol of awareness for Progeria and other special needs, using her unique spirit to inspire thousands of people worldwide.”

She added: “The Booysen family kindly requests privacy during this profoundly difficult time as they mourn the loss of their beloved Beandri. Further details regarding the memorial service will be shared in due course.”

“Rest in peace and without pain Beandri,” one follower commented underneath as her fans and followers rushed to send their condolences to her heartbroken family.

“So sad. What an inspiration she was. Fly high with the angels sweet girl,” another added.

A short tribute video was also shared on TikTok with a picture of the late social media star.

“WE ALREADY MISS YOU SO MUCH,” the post was captioned.

“In my thoughts and prayers,” a follower commented underneath.

Booysen had more than 278,000 followers on her original TikTok account and recently started another page.

On her 19th birthday in November, her mother shared a sweet photo of her daughter on their Facebook page wearing a birthday sash and holding a glitter balloon.

“Happy 19th Birthday to our Dearest Angel daughter, Beandri Booysen. We are so proud of the young lady you became and for being such an inspiration to so many people. We love you to the moon and back,” she wrote.

The Mayo Clinic says that children battling the condition typically have a life expectancy of 15 to 20 years.

Symptoms include slowed growth, hair loss and premature ageing.
