90 Day Fiancé star David Murphey has died aged 66 after a years-long health battle.

The TV star’s death was announced in a heartbreaking statement by his family, shared to his personal Instagram account.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that David Murphey, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away at home on December 11, 2024, after experiencing health issues over the last several years,” they began.

Murphey had recently retired from the Nevada’s Clark County Treasurer’s office.

He was also a small business owner and software engineer, as well as a veteran.

The star was best known for appearing on the fourth season of the reality dating series 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, which aired in 2020.

“His time on the show allowed him to connect with viewers, see the world, and share his experiences with his thousands of followers on Instagram,” his family wrote.

“He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans”.

The family highlighted his “fierce love for cats”. Murphey is survived by his cat, Gamera.

The star “always made an effort to adopt cats and give them a good loving home”.

In light of this, his family said donations could be made to The Animal Foundation in Murphey’s name to “honour his memory”. 

The post was inundated with tributes for the reality TV star.

Amira from 90 Day Fiancé wrote: “My friend. Rest in peace 🙏”

Tom Brooks, who also starred on the show, revealed they had just recently caught up.

“We were only with him last week RIP my friend heartbreaking”.

David Murphey and Lana from 90 Day Fiance

George Mossey, who hosts a 90 Day Fiancé podcast, said on X (formerly Twitter) it was “very sad news to report”.

“We lost one of our 90 day fiancé OGs,” he wrote.

“Condolences to his family and friends”.

Murphey has previously opened up about his health in a video update more than a year ago.

In March 2023, he told his followers on Instagram Live he had “been ill” and in hospital.

“I’ve been in and out of the hospital for the last, almost three months,” he shared in the video, which is posted to his main feed.

Murphey explained his “liver is not working right”.

“I’ve had all these tests and they just can’t figure it out yet.”

He added there were issues with his pancreas and kidneys as well.

Murphey became a public figure after starring on 90 Day Fiancé with his girlfriend Lana.

After seven years, the pair finally met face-to-face on the show in Ukraine and became engaged.

However, their relationship did not last. The couple broke things off in late 2021.
