Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, has strongly denied the rape allegations brought against the music mogul, calling the claims “provably demonstrably false” during a press conference at Roc Nation’s New York headquarters on Monday. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spiro presented evidence he says exposes glaring contradictions in the lawsuit filed by attorney Tony Buzbee on behalf of a now 38-year-old Jane Doe.

The woman alleges that Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs raped her at a party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards when she was 13 years old. Spiro firmly asserted that the story “never happened” and criticized Buzbee for what he called a narrative built for financial gain. “This is not for truth and justice. This is for money,” Spiro said.

Spiro outlined a series of major inconsistencies in Jane Doe’s account, calling them far more than minor errors. One key point involved her claim that her father picked her up following the alleged assault. Spiro revealed that the woman’s father has no recollection of such an event. The attorney also dismantled her assertion that she spoke to musician Benji Madden of Good Charlotte at the afterparty, pointing out that Madden was on tour in the Midwest at the time and not in New York City.

Another critical flaw, Spiro said, was Jane Doe’s description of the location where the incident allegedly occurred. “The house she claims this happened at does not exist,” Spiro stated. “We don’t know whether they created a location to establish jurisdiction in New York or simply didn’t do their homework, but there is no such place.”

Spiro also refuted Jane Doe’s timeline. He said Jay-Z was at a different event when the alleged assault was said to have occurred and presented photos as evidence. Additionally, the woman claimed she watched the MTV Video Music Awards from a jumbotron outside Radio City Music Hall. Spiro explained there was no jumbotron outside the venue that year, further discrediting the details of her story.

The lawyer also challenged logistical aspects of the woman’s claims, including her allegation that she attempted to reach Sean Combs’ limousine. Spiro emphasized that the streets outside the VMAs had been heavily blocked off due to Eminem’s performance, making such access implausible.

Spiro urged the public to scrutinize the “unnatural” nature of Jane Doe’s account. “[She] said she’s at the party alone, this 13-year-old girl, and she finds herself in the room with the three most famous people at the party. Just think about how little common sense that makes,” he said. “And according to her, one of the witnesses is a female celebrity who’s just standing there watching the repetitive rape of a child. None of that happened.”

He further questioned the lack of witnesses or reports over the 24 years since the alleged incident. “Afterwards, she says she runs out of the house naked. None of them notice? None of them say anything for 24 years?”

Spiro also addressed Jay-Z’s feelings about the situation, saying the rap icon is understandably upset. “He’s upset that somebody would be allowed to do this — to make a mockery of the system like this. He’s upset that it distracts real victims from coming forward. He’s upset that his kids and family have to deal with this.”

When asked about Jay-Z’s relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is also facing a separate set of allegations, Spiro dismissed any deeper connection beyond their professional association. “Mr. Carter has nothing to do with Mr. Combs’ case. They knew each other professionally. They’ve supported each other at industry events, as people do in their professions. That’s all there is. The idea of any closer association is pure fiction.”

Spiro criticized Buzbee’s handling of the case, saying, “This is a narrative created out of thin air. I expect this case to be dismissed, and if not, it will crumble.” He closed the press conference by playing a six-minute clip of the NBC News report in which Jane Doe acknowledged inconsistencies in her story.

“This is the truth,” Spiro said. “What happened in this case is not possible because it never happened.”
