The 48-year-old retired reggaeton star and his former manager – who have Jesaaelys, 28, and Yamilet, 27, and Jeremy, 26, together – tied the knot as teenagers in 1995, and despite “many months” of trying to “save” their marriage, Mireddys filed for divorce, a decision her husband “respects”.

In a statement shared to his Instagram Stories in Spanish, the rapper is translated as saying: “With a heart full of respect and honesty, I want to share some important news about my personal life.

“After more than two decades of marriage and after many months of trying to save my marriage, which my wife and I share, today my lawyers responded to the divorce petition received from Mireddys.

“I respect Mireddys‘ decision.

“I appreciate the time we shared, full of blessings and values, of love and with a beautiful family that will continue to be our priority. This is not an easy time, but I understand that it is part of my life process.”

After asking for “privacy” for his family, the ‘Despacito’ hitmaker – whose real name is Ramón Rodríguez – said he will not be making any further comments on the divorce.

He added: “I deeply thank those who have accompanied us during this journey and I ask that you respect our privacy in this process.

“I know that this news may surprise many. Thank you for your unconditional support. This will be my only statement.”

Yankee quit music last year to dedicate his life to Jesus.

The ‘King of Reggaeton’ confirmed in 2022 that he would hang up his microphone after three decades and eight albums following the release of his LP, ‘Legendaddy’, and his final tour, ‘La Meta (The Goal)’, which wrapped in December 2023 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

He told fans at the live-streamed event: “Tonight I recognise, and I am not ashamed to tell the whole world, that Jesus lives in me and that I will live for him.

“For many years I’ve tried filling a hole in my life that no one could fill. I tried finding a purpose, on many occasions, it seemed as if I was happy but something was missing for me to feel complete.”

In Spanish, he said: “I took note of something the Bible says.”

Before reciting: “What good will it be for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?”

In a statement on YouTube last year, the 46-year-old Puerto Rican star – who now goes by his birthname – said: “This race, which has been a marathon, finally sees the finish line. Now, I am going to enjoy what all of you have given me.

“People say that I made this genre worldwide, but it was you who gave me the key to open the doors to make it the biggest in the world.”
