President-elect Donald Trump has issued a stark ultimatum to Hamas, demanding the immediate release of hostages held in Gaza before his inauguration on January 20. In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump warned of severe retaliation if the hostages remain captive, vowing that those responsible would face “ALL HELL TO PAY.”

“Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied History of the United States of America. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW!” Trump wrote Monday.

Trump’s comments come as outgoing President Joe Biden works urgently to secure a ceasefire and the release of hostages in the final weeks of his presidency. The hostage crisis has escalated since Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack, which resulted in hundreds of captives being taken, including American citizens.

The urgency heightened further with the confirmation that American-Israeli Omer Neutra, believed to be held hostage in Gaza, was killed during the initial attack. Hamas has reportedly been holding Neutra’s body, deepening the anguish of his family and intensifying calls for action.

“Everybody is talking about the hostages who are being held so violently, inhumanely, and against the will of the entire World, in the Middle East – But it’s all talk, and no action!” Trump added in his post, criticizing current efforts to resolve the crisis.

While the president-elect has not detailed what actions his administration might take, the threat of “all hell” suggests he is preparing for an aggressive response.

With just weeks remaining until Trump’s inauguration, the hostage situation remains one of the most critical issues facing the Middle East and U.S. foreign policy. Biden’s administration continues its efforts to broker a resolution, but Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric has added a new layer of tension to an already fraught situation.

As the clock ticks down to January 20, the world will be watching closely to see how this crisis unfolds—and what it means for the future of the region.
