Music producer Scott Storch has opened up about his time living with DMX during the peak of their careers and shared struggles with addiction.

Speaking candidly on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Storch revealed the complexities of their friendship and his attempts to help the late rapper get clean despite battling his own demons.

“It was like the blind leading the blind,” Storch admitted. “I’m an addict, and he’s a crack addict, and I’m like trying to help him.” He recalled the surreal moments of urging DMX to seek sobriety while simultaneously indulging in his own cocaine habit.

Storch recounted how he encouraged DMX to enter rehab, even suggesting a facility he himself had tried previously. However, according to Storch, DMX’s time there was short-lived. Years later, Storch encountered DMX again and described a last-ditch effort to support him in his journey to recovery. He explained that DMX completed detox and was set to transition to an inpatient facility to which Storch was connected. Unfortunately, Storch never saw DMX again for his continued treatment.

DMX, known for hits like “Slippin,” passed away on April 9th, 2021, from a cocaine-induced heart attack. Reflecting on the tragedy, Storch expressed both heartbreak and a lingering sense of what might have been.

“He was like such a special guy,” Storch added.
