Supermodel Linda Evangelista has made a rare public appearance with son Augustin at an award show in her native Canada.

Evangelista, 59, took the 18-year-old along as her date to the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards (CAFA) over the weekend, where she received an award.

It was the second time in just two weeks her lookalike son has made an appearance on her Instagram account, after she took to social media to wish him a happy 18th birthday.

The October 12 post came a day after his birthday, which she celebrated with a carousel of photos of Augustin throughout the years.

Evangelista also took to Instagram overnight to thank CAFA for honouring her with this year’s Vanguard Award.

The Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards have been running since 2014 to recognise and celebrate outstanding achievement and emerging talent in the Canadian fashion industry.

“Thank you CAFA for this incredible honour. Receiving the Vanguard Award back home with family present means the world to me,” she wrote on Instagram.

“For me, fashion has always been a place where dreams, aspirations, and inspirations flourish.

“The beauty of fashion is there is no right or wrong way of creating it; fashion allows each of us to choose not only how we see ourselves but how we present ourselves to the world.”

Evangelista’s career began in 1984 when she was signed by Elite Model Management, but really took off a few years later when she cut her hair into her now famous pixie style.

She was one of the first models to be deemed a ‘supermodel’ alongside the likes of Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford in the 1990s.

Evangelista, Campbell, Turlington and Crawford joined Tatjana Patitz in the music video for the George Michael hit song Freedom! ’90 after they appeared on a January 1990 cover of British Vogue.

At the time, Evangelista was one of the highest paid models in the world and once famously said, “We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day,” although the phrase was often misquoted as “I don’t get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day.”

She later said she regretted making the comment.

Evangelista retired from modelling in 1998 before making a return a few years later.

Her personal life has been marred by heartache.

In 1987, she married Gérald Marie, the then head of Elite’s Paris office.

After their split, she dated actor Kyle MacLachlan before she started a relationship with French football player Fabien Barthez.

She suffered a heartbreaking pregnancy loss in 1999 when she was six months pregnant, and the two broke up later.

Evangelista gave birth to Augustin in October 2006, but did not reveal his paternity until June 2011, when court papers revealed billionaire Frenchman François-Henri Pinault was his father.

Pinault went on to marry actress Salma Hayek and welcome a daughter with her, Valentina.

A battle for child support began in court before Pinault and Evangelista reached an out-of-court settlement in May 2012.

The two appear to have made up, with Evangelista even including photos of Pinault with his dad and stepsister on her Instagram account.

In recent years, Evangelista has battled ill health. She revealed just a year ago she underwent a double mastectomy in 2018 after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She battled the disease again in 2022 when a recurrence was detected in her pectoral muscle.

In 2021, Evangelista claimed she was left “brutally disfigured” by a fat-freezing procedure she underwent in 2015.

She told People she turned into a recluse in the wake of a rare side effect she suffered, and tried to shield her son from what happened, so as to “not be a burden to my child.”

She has since reached a settlement with the company behind the procedure.
