After a 4 year-hiatus, London-based recording artist Tyrell Trey reemerges from the shadows of constraint to make his presence felt in a MAJOR way today (October 18th), with the unveiling of his brand new single ‘Even If’.
Marking the Basingstoke natives first independent release since his departure from previous record label TENNNN, the irrepressible groove of the introspective track sees a pensive Trey press pause of the often overwrought, and chaotic London lifestyle, to reflect upon the emotional challenges young people face whilst trying to make a life for themselves in the British capital.
Tackling themes of isolation, strained relationships and unhealthy coping mechanisms, the songs vivid, deeply personal lyrics are brought to life by Tyrell’s brooding, and evocative delivery, his alluring vocal tone gliding across the top of an hypnotic sequence of 90s inspired UK garage beats, to create something of an R&B firestorm that’s both fresh, and nostalgic in sound.
“I originally wrote the ‘Even If’ acoustically on my guitar whilst sobering up after a night out, feeling fragile and sorry for myself,” a thoughtful Tyrell tells CelebMix of the singles origins. “The chords came to me first, and then I knew I wanted to encapsulate that feeling of taking things too far, and the reflective thoughts that come after.”

Inspired by musical trailblazers Shola Ama, Craig David, and The Streets, as well as American R&B / soul legend D’Angelo, Tyrell Trey’s return to music sees the cutting-edge artist combine his eclectic influences and personal experiences, to craft a unique, genre-blending sound of his own.
Having spent time in the studio, honing his craft and developing his pen, with his new material Trey aims to tell detailed stories that “paint a picture for listeners, taking them on a visual journey that feels almost cinematic”.
Away from music, Tyrell was recently seen in Saweetie’s music video for ’Is It The Way’, and will also appear in a yet to be released project with British singer / songwriter, and rapper Maverick Sabre.
