Sabrina Carpenter has defended a very talked-about cameo in one of her music videos.
The pop star shocked fans around the world when her rumoured boyfriend, actor Barry Keoghan appeared in the video for her song Please Please Please in June.
It was the hard-launch we’d all been waiting for. But months on, Carpenter is putting to rest any speculation over why he got the role.

“I am genuinely, like a not even biased opinion, I was like, ‘Who’s the greatest actor that I can find for this music video?'” recalled to Tracy Smith for CBS Sunday Morning
“And he was next to me in a chair, and he was so excited about it,” she said of Keoghan.
“And he likes the song, which is great. He’s a fan of the song.”
The pop star confirmed her partner does, in fact, like her music “a lot”.
Keoghan stars as the Clyde to Carpenter’s Bonnie in the Please Please Please video – the second single from the singer’s wildly popular Short ‘n’ Sweet album.
At the time the video came out, Carpenter was rumoured to be dating Irish actor Keoghan, of Saltburn and The Banshees of Inisherin fame.
The actor first appears in the video just before the one minute mark.
Keoghan stars as Carpenter’s on-screen partner-in-crime who she bails out of jail.

Keoghan’s role in the video hard-launched his relationship with Carpenter, finally confirming the months-long dating speculation.
“Starring the one and only @keoghan92 !!!!!!!🍀” Carpenter wrote to Instagram just after the video dropped.
Carpenter previously told Variety Keoghan was “obsessed with the lyrics” of her song.

“I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation. So getting to see him on the screen with my song as the soundtrack made the video better and all the more special.”
The couple first sparked romance rumours in December 2023.
Over the months they made several public appearances, including at the Met Gala.
Keoghan is speculated by fans to be inspiration behind Carpenter’s song Bed Chem.
“BED CHEM my fave just sayin m’darlin @sabrinacarpenter.” Keoghan even posted to his Instagram story in August.
