British singer James Blunt has made a rather big promise – he’ll change his name if his hit 2004 album reaches no.1 on the charts again.

In a rather risky move, Blunt, 50, said during a fun appearance on Radio X that he’s putting the name change in the hands of the public and they’ll actually get to choose what moniker he’ll go by in future.

”It’s not just an act of desperation. It’s a genuine thing,” he said on the radio show.

“The label are going to launch a campaign to get it [Back to Bedlam] back to no.1.

“If it reaches no.1, I have signed up to changing my name to whatever the public want – they can change my name.”

“I swear on my life and the life of my one fan…” the You’re Beautiful singer joked.

He added that he’s a little nervous about the name change and hopes fans don’t choose “Blunty McBluntface”.

“They’re not going to go for anything that rhymes with Blunt are they?”

Back to Bedlam came out in late 2004 and was a hit on the charts, producing singles including You’re Beautiful, Goodbye My Lover and High.

It is said to have sold a whopping 12 million copies worldwide.

Three years ago, Blunt has a snazzy response to an internet troll who tweeted that his hit single You’re Beautiful was ”f–ked up”.

“It’s a f–ked up song if you listen to it,” the tweet read. “It’s about a guy who sees a girl and ‘falls in love’ purely based on her physical appearance.

They added: “He knows nothing else about her. It’s shallow as f–k and kind of sh–ty.”

Blunt amusingly replied: “Err, she was my ex-girlfriend.”
