Saweetie is shooting down claims that she supports colorism in any way. 

On Sunday, a Twitter user made a joke about the rapper not only benefitting from but somehow praising colorism. The individual wrote, “I bet Saweetie wakes up every morning, brushes her teeth, looks in the mirror, and thanks God for colorism.” This take caught Saweetie’s attention, who wasted no time setting them straight.

“Yikes, tasteless humor. Nothing witty or clever about this whatsoever. Matter of fact, joking about a serious psychological battle is never funny. If you don’t agree with my art, that’s fine, but don’t identify me with a behavior that condones discrimination. Because I don’t. Thanks,” the University of Southern California graduate wrote. 

It’s unclear what prompted the user to speak out against Saweetie. However, she has been the subject of conversation about colorism since breaking into the mainstream. Still, several other Twitter users began coming to her defense after the brief exchange. Some even pointed out that Saweetie has called out others for being colorists. Back in 2021, she checked rapper Too Short about his comments about only dating mixed-race women. He apologized shortly after.
