Hollywood actor and country music superstar Kris Kristofferson has died.

The music and movie legend, who hailed from Texas and was known for the Blade film franchise and A Star Is Born, died at the age of 88, with his family confirming the sad news in an emotional statement.

In the statement, shared with People, his family confirmed he “passed away peacefully” on September 28.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home,” the statement read.

“We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all,” they added.

The publication reports he died at home in Maui.

The statement was also shared on his official Instagram account with the family’s request for privacy.

“You left this world better than you found it, Kris,” singer Channing Wilson commented underneath. 

Fans and followers flocked to comment upon news of his death, with one writing: “This man was a giant.”

“He was a brilliant singer/songwriter… and an underrated actor. He was generous with his fame, instrumental in helping a couple of unknowns… get their record deals. He stood up for Sinead O’Connor when much of the world was against her.”

They added: “Politically he was always on the right side of history. The world was a richer place because he was in it and it will not have as much light as it once did now that he is gone. RIP to one of the greats.”

He recently reunited with his A Star Is Born co-star Barbara Streisand for a duet Lost Inside of You.
