Fatman Scoop’s death was caused by hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
The rap star passed away on August 30, aged 56, and his cause of death has now been revealed, with the Connecticut Medical Examiner’s Office sharing the news with PEOPLE.
It’s also been confirmed that the rapper’s death was natural with no foul play suspected.
The ‘Be Faithful’ hitmaker – whose real name was Isaac Freeman III – passed away after he suffered a medical emergency at a concert.
The rapper’s passing was confirmed by his booking agency, MN2S.
A statement – which was shared with PEOPLE – read: “Scoop was a beloved figure in the music world, whose work was loved by countless fans across the globe.
“His iconic voice, infectious energy, and great personality made an indelible mark on the industry, and his legacy will live on through his timeless music. Fatman Scoop had been a valued member of the MN2S family for 15 years, and his loss is deeply felt by all of us.”
Sharron Elkabas, the rapper’s representative, also admitted to being shocked by the news.
In a statement shared by MN2S, Sharron explained: “I spoke to him just a few days ago, and he was in such good spirits. It’s hard to believe he is no longer with us.”
Meanwhile, the rapper’s family released a heartfelt tribute via social media.
They said on Instagram: “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.
“FatManScoop was not just a world-class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and a friend. He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage.”
